On Monday, the Kremlin dismissed reports claiming Russian President Vladimir Putin recently spoke with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump regarding the Ukraine conflict. Trump’s spokesperson also declined to address what he termed Trump’s “private calls” with international leaders.

According to a report by The Washington Post, citing anonymous sources, the alleged call took place last Thursday, with Trump supposedly advising Putin against escalating the war in Ukraine and highlighting the significant U.S. military presence in Europe.

However, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov refuted the report, stating in a press briefing, “No such conversation occurred,” calling the claims “completely false and purely fictional.”

When asked about the report, Trump’s communications director, Steven Cheung, reiterated their stance, saying, “We do not comment on private calls between President Trump and other world leaders.”

At a foreign policy forum last Thursday in Sochi, Putin congratulated Trump on his election victory, commending him for what he described as “brave” actions during an alleged assassination attempt in July.

Peskov noted that while there are currently “no specific plans” for a conversation between Putin and Trump, he did not rule out possible contacts before Trump’s inauguration. He also denied any recent communication between Trump’s team and Russian officials following the election.

Throughout his campaign, Trump has expressed confidence in his ability to resolve the conflict in Ukraine quickly, though he has not detailed his approach.

As the war nears its 1,000th day, Russia has intensified its strikes on civilian areas within Ukraine. Meanwhile, over the weekend, Ukraine launched a significant drone attack targeting Moscow and nearby regions, underscoring the ongoing tensions.
